Judy Crosby opened Island Books in Middletown,
RI in 1993. Hers is a general store with emphasis on fiction, biography,
history and children's books. She served on the NEIBA Advisory Council
from 2004 to 2007 and was a member of the Strategic Planning Committee.
When not working or reading, Judy enjoys gardening, cooking and browsing
antique stores. She has lived in Portsmouth, RI since 1985 where
she and her husband Gary raised their two sons.

Mitch Gaslin
is a co-owner of Food for Thought Books, a non-profit,
workers' collective bookstore in Amherst, MA. It is a general store
specializing in progressive politics, as well as selling textbooks.
Mitch has worked there since 1986. He is primarily responsible for
accounts payable, textbook ordering and returns, and remainders.
In 1990, through a Bertelsmann Foundation grant, he
worked three months at a bookstore in Germany. Mitch served on the
Advisory Council from 2002 through 2004. Outside the store, Mitch
does all the work he didn't finish while at work, as well as chauffeuring
his son to ballet and theater rehearsals.

Dick Hermans

Dick Hermans is the founder/owner of Oblong
Books & Music which started in 1975 in Millerton, NY, 95
miles north of Manhattan. Named for an historic region between New
York and Connecticut, Oblong has grown from a 400 sq.ft. beginning
and now occupies two 1880's buildings in the small village.
Dick opened a second store in historic Rhinebeck in
2001. Dick's daughter, Suzanna has recently become manager of the
Rhinebeck store. Dick has been active for many years with the Harlem
Valley Rail Trail Association. He lives in Pine Plains, NY with his
wife, folksinger Priscilla Herdman.

Madison, CT
Karen Corvello is the Head Buyer & Operations
Manager at R.J. Julia Booksellers in Madison, CT, where she
has worked for over seven years. She spent three years at Yale University
Press as a publicist, working on both trade and academic titles.
Her bookselling career began at her college bookstore in Boston.
She has also worked for Lauriat's on Beacon Street, as well as various
Waldenbooks throughout the city. Her most peaceful job was working
for Episcopalian monks at Cowley Publications. To relax, she bakes,
swing dances, and kickboxes.

John Hugo, born into the business of my "dear old dad,"
Robert Hugo, bookseller of 42 years. Almost four years now running
the Andover Bookstore as well as accounting and ordering duties for
the three HugoBooks stores. Avid reader of fiction, occasional dabbler
in non-fiction. When not working (hardly ever...) you can find me
riding my motorcycle visiting other New England Bookstores. Dedicated
second-generation bookseller interested in maintaining a vital, profitable
independent bookstore.

Portland, ME
Barbara Kelly has been a proud bookseller for over
26 years. Kelly as she is more popularly known is the Tradebook and
Software Manager for the University of Southern Maine Bookstores
located on the campuses at Portland, Gorham and Lewiston, Maine.
She also enjoyed a stint as a bookseller at Bookland of Maine at
the South Portland store where she was in charge of special orders.
Kelly also served for three one year terms on the
NEIBA Advisory Council and is pleased to be considered for a seat
on the board. When not selling books Kelly can be found at her sewing
machine making costumes for many theatre troupes around Maine.

Ann Wachur

Ann Wachur has been in the business of selling books
since she started working full time. She started out in the world
of independent bookselling at a store in Stamford, Connecticut. She
then went on to work as a publisher's rep. The last ten years have
been spent at Penguin and the prior years were spent at G.P. Putnam
before it became part of Penguin. When not selling and reading Penguin
books, she enjoys reading other companies' books, spending time with
her husband and two sons, and hiking.
