We'll start the day with presentations by ten authors/illustrators and end the day with education.

“Windows and Mirrors” in Visual Storytelling. Authors and illustrators from the 2024 Windows & Mirrors List join us to discuss how they marry words and pictures into a harmonious story, using them to engage readers in understanding and supporting diverse experiences.
Registration will close January 10. Registration is free for NEIBA members and their employees. Non-members may attend the Author & Illustrator presentations for a $50 fee.
FebruaryFebruary 4-5 • NEIBA Board & Advisory Council Meeting (Boston, MA) The Board and Advisory Council will discuss matters pertaining to the organization.
February 12-13 • NEIBA & NAIBA Adult Book Buyers' Retreat (Rhinebeck, NY) Buyers of adult titles from the NEIBA and NAIBA regions meet in lovely Rhinebeck NY for two days of publisher presentations about forthcoming titles that include meetings with editors, author presentations, and marketing brainstorming. A reception at NEIBA and NAIBA member store Oblong Books is included in the proceedings. Registration for the 2025 event is closed. Registration for the 2026 event for children's book buyers will open in November 2025.
February 24 - 27 • ABA Winter Institute (Denver, CO) The ABA is proud to present this 20th annual industry event filled with educational programming for independent bookstores, as well as keynotes, author receptions, and exciting events to be announced! MarchMarch 25-56 • NEIBA Owners' Retreat (Wentworth by the Sea Hotel, Portsmouth, NH) Our Owners' Retreat draws attendees who gather to socialize with their peers, learn from our publishing partners, and brainstorm new ideas to implement at their stores. This event is open to up to 40 owners of NEIBA member bookstores. AprilDate to come • NEIBA Managers' Retreat (Location to come) Bookstore Managers within the NEIBA community are invited to socialize with their peers, attend educational sessions with our publishing partners, and brainstorm new ideas to implement at their stores. To pitch an idea for publisher-led programming at this event, please e-mail Executive Director Beth Ineson (Beth@NEBA.org). More information to come.
Independent Bookstore Day • April 26 (Participating Stores) Independent Bookstore Day is a national party that takes place at indie bookstores across the country on the last Saturday in April. In addition to authors, live music, cupcakes, scavenger hunts, kids events, art tables, readings, barbecues, contests, there are exclusive books and literary items that you can only get on that day. Since every store is unique and independent, every party is different. For information on how to participate, click here to visit the ABA's website. May 7 - 8 • The Spring Forum (Hartford, CT) NEIBA's Spring Forum is a two day event full of author presentations, education, and community building. This year, the Spring Forum will be held May 7-8, 2024 in Hartford, CT.
JuneJune (Ongoing) • State-by-State Shop TalksThroughout May and June, the NEIBA office will travel to each state of the region to facilitate shop talks for booksellers. Stay tuned for more information! June 12 - 14 • ABA Children's Institute (Portland, OR)Children’s Institute is an rousing three-day celebration of children’s bookselling, offering unique education for children’s booksellers in addition to general education sessions, roundtable discussions, networking events, receptions and parties, and dedicated time to network with booksellers, authors, and publishers from around the country. AugustDate to come • NECBA Meeting (via Zoom) The New England Children’s Bookselling Advisory Council (NECBA) is a passionate, progressive group of booksellers who are dedicated to making children’s literature accessible to all. This meeting is open to all NEIBA members and will include a general-interest education session and preview of the next Windows & Mirrors list. SeptemberSeptember 9 - 11 • The Fall Conference (Manchester, NH) The Fall Conference is NEIBA’s largest event, bringing our community of authors, publishers, and booksellers past and present together to celebrate independent bookselling in New England. Held annually, the conference attracts 600+ attendees from the six states of New England, as well as parts of New York, and 50+ exhibitors from coast to coast. Attendees travel from across the region to meet authors, collaborate with publishing partners, seek out new vendors, attend education sessions, and socialize with their peers. This will be NEIBA's 52nd Fall Conference and the first one held in Newton, MA! Author submissions and the exhibitor order form will both open in May.
