Bookseller Scholarships

Every year, NEIBA and its publisher partners strive to sponsor multiple scholarships so that booksellers employed by member stores can attend NEIBA events at little to no cost.

Spring Forum Scholarships

The 2023 Spring Forum has concluded. We look forward to hosting you in 2024!

Fall Conference Scholarships

Scholarships Administered by NEIBA

NEIBA is pleased to announce that 8 Fall Conference scholarships are available to member booksellers. Each scholarship has a value of $500 to be used for transportation, two nights at the hotel, and tickets to all of our meal events. If you are a bookseller whose store has not previously been able to attend NEIBA events, you are strongly encouraged to apply.

All applications must include your name, your store's name, your position at the store, and a short essay telling us why you would like to attend the 2023 NEIBA Fall Conference and what your goals and expectations are. 3 of our available scholarships have additional requirements:

1. SCHOLARSHIP FOR FIRST TIME ATTENDEES
For booksellers who have not attended an in-person Fall Conference

2. SCHOLARSHIP FRONTLINE BOOKSELLERS
For booksellers with less than 5 years of experience

3. SCHOLARSHIP FOR EMPOWERING DIVERSITY
As part of your essay, please answer the following: What does diversity in literature mean to you as a bookseller and why is it crucial to have diversity in the bookselling community?

In addition to the above, we will offer 3 general scholarships (one of which is generously sponsored by our friends at the Binc Foundation) and the following:

THE DRUGAN SCHOLARSHIP: The Rusty Drugan Scholarship for Emerging Leaders is awarded annually in memory of Wayne “Rusty” Drugan, Executive Director of the New England Independent Booksellers Association from 1992 to 2006. Unlike other scholarships, booksellers may apply directly or be nominated by others in the industry.

THE KEATING SCHOLARSHIP: The George Keating Scholarship is a professional development scholarship honoring George Keating’s legacy supporting, defending, and promoting literature, and all those who were passionate about the written word.

The application form for Fall Conference scholarships is now closed. Thank you!

The Macmillan Diversity Scholarship on Behalf of Binc

Thanks to the generosity of Macmillan, Binc is proud to present a scholarship opportunity for a bookseller from an underrepresented group to attend NEIBA's 2023 Fall Conference. This scholarship has a $500 value to cover registration and hotel costs.

The applications form for this scholarship is now closed. Thank you!
